The History of the Royal Guardhouse (Tarikh-i Kishik-khanah-i Humayun) is a historical-literary work of mixed verse and prose by Nur al-Din Muhammad Sharif Kashani, the great Persian poet and prose writer of the Safavid era, and the poet laureate in the court of the Safavid shah Sulayman and Shah Sultan Husaun Nur al-Din has remained a relatively obscure figure, and there is not even one mention of Najib, his nom de plume, in Persian literary biographies or histories of literature.
The History was completed on the 1st day of Muharram of the year 1110 (10th of July, 1698), two or three years after the explulson of Sultan Jalal al-Din Akbar from Isfahan. The prince was the third son of the gurkani Aurangzeb of India (reign 1068-1119/1657-1707) who had appointed him the governor of Kashmir.Around this time (two or three years prior to 1090/1679), Najib was designated poet laureate in Kashmir by the prince.
